What to do in Gran Canaria in Spring

Gran Canaria is known for being the island of eternal spring. With its unique climate with pleasant summers and mild winters with sunny days, blue skies and stable temperatures, the climate throughout the year stays pretty much the same.

That’s thanks to its refreshing trade winds, the Gulf Stream that bathes its coastline and the warm influence of the Azores anticyclone in winter.

These are just some of the factors that the island enjoys due to its exceptional geographical location, in an area of transition and contact between high pressure and westerly circulation.

Logically, thanks to this enviable climate – and as you might have guessed – the island is a perfect setting for all kinds of plans. That’s why we’re going to give you some of the best things to do in Gran Canaria.

Things to do in Gran Canaria in April

On this miniature continent, anything is possible in spring: go to the beachstargaze  high above the island, walk the most spectacular trails, lose yourself in lush forests… and much more!

Anfi Challenge Mogán Gran Canaria, a triathlon in the sunshine

The south coast of the island hosts next April one of the most awaited triathlons by all fans of this sport that combines swimming with cycling and running: the Anfi Challenge Mogán Gran Canaria.

Professional athletes from all over the world will take part in this sporting event, including athletes from the Canary Islands. It’s a macro event in which Gran Canaria becomes the world capital of Triathlon on the 22/04/2023.

See the almond trees in blossom at the top of Gran Canaria

Hiking through the island’s peaks to see the almond blossom is one of the best decisions you can make during the spring in Gran Canaria.

In Tejeda, one of the most beautiful villages in Spain, you can admire the beauty of this beautiful tree when it’s in full bloom. The special conditions of the volcanic soil in this area make it ideal for this tree with its minimal hybrid requirements.

Easter or Holy Week in Gran Canaria

Triana, one of the oldest neighbourhoods in the Canary Islands, owes its name to the popular quarter of Seville. It makes sense, since there were many Andalusians among the first settlers on the island.

Proof of that is the Holy Week (Semana Santa), a religious celebration that has been deeply rooted in the population of Gran Canaria since those distant times. Although these festivities don’t have the same magnitude as in Andalusia, they are quite popular among the Canary Islanders.

The fervour of the islanders is evident in the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, one of the most interesting places to see the processions and brotherhoods on the island with processions every day and a large one on Good Friday afternoon.

Maspalomas Pride: ready for fun and colors?

Gran Canaria is one of the most important LGTBI destinations in the world. Beaches, relaxation, nightlife and good weather 365 days a year, with a clear epicentre: Maspalomas. It’s home to the Yumbo Centrum, the first shopping centre in the world dedicated to this group, with more than 200 gay-friendly establishments.

In addition, the Maspalomas beach  offers amazing landscapes of almost three kilometres of golden sand dunes, and it’s one of the biggest meeting points for the LGTBI public. Additionally, you shouldn’t miss the stretch of beach bar number seven, with a fantastic atmosphere to enjoy near the sea.

But, without a doubt, one of the best events of the year in Gran Canaria is Maspalomas Pride, which will be held from the 4th to the 14th of May this 2023. In this 22st edition there will be night galas, exhibitions, culture, pool parties, theme parties and much more in a unique destination in the world.

Holidayworld Maspalomas, the biggest focus of springtime fun in the south of Gran Canaria

Of course, there’s one thing you shouldn’t miss for anything in the world: a visit to the largest entertainment and leisure centre in the whole of the Canary Islands, located in the south of Gran Canaria: Holidayworld Maspalomas.

Only here you can have fun at the best attractions, have a game of bowling  in a professional bowling alley, feel like a music star in a magnificent karaoke  room, decipher the mysteries of an escape room, taste the flavours of the world in a gastronomic market…

In short, it’s the heart of leisure and entertainment on the island. It’s a place full of magic where young and old alike will have a great time. There’s no better plan to do in Gran Canaria in spring than to visit Holidayworld Maspalomas.
